This Privacy Policy explains what information Rosternomics ("we," "us," "the site") collects when you use rosternomics.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
Rosternomics does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email, or other directly identifying information. We collect only the following:
- Usage & interaction data. Actions you take on the site — for example, hypothetical trades you build in the Trade Calculator (the teams and players involved, any cash, and the model's calculated surplus and WAR values) and votes you cast on trades. This helps us understand how the tools are used and improve them.
- Device and technical data. A randomly generated device identifier stored in your browser (via cookie or local storage), plus standard technical information sent by your browser such as a hashed version of your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. We store IP addresses only as a salted, one-way hash — the raw IP address is never written to our records.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic and usage patterns. Google may set its own cookies and process data under its own policies.
We do not knowingly collect free-form personal text, payment information, or precise location, and the site is not directed to children under 13.
How we use it
- To operate, maintain, and improve the site and its models;
- To understand which features are used and how, and to develop new ones;
- To detect, prevent, and address abuse, spam, and technical problems;
- To produce aggregated, anonymized insights about how baseball fans evaluate players and trades.
How we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information as follows:
- Aggregated, anonymized data. We may share, publish, or license data and insights that have been aggregated or anonymized so that they cannot reasonably be used to identify you or your device — for example, statistics about which players are most frequently included in hypothetical trades. This aggregated data is not personal information. Because it cannot be linked back to you or your device, we do not treat sharing or licensing it as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).
- Service providers. With vendors that help us run the site (for example, our hosting and content-delivery providers and Google Analytics), who may process data on our behalf.
- Legal reasons. If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Rosternomics or others.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to remember your preferences (such as light/dark theme), to keep a device identifier so features like one-vote-per-device work, and for analytics. You can clear or block these through your browser settings; some features may not work correctly if you do.
Data retention and security
We keep usage data for as long as it is useful for the purposes above. We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including hashing IP addresses at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example, California under the CCPA/CPRA, or the EU/UK under GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to opt out of certain processing. Because we collect only pseudonymous identifiers and no account details, we may need additional information to locate any data associated with your device. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
